Additional needs

We aim to ensure that every child has equality and the opportunity to develop to their full potential. Staff take time to look, listen and note what they have seen and heard and with that information they make decisions which help meet the individual child or groups needs which will have a very real impact on the well being of the child.

Learning Environment

Children have space indoors and outdoors where they can be active or quiet and where they can think, dream and watch others.

One of our resources is a sensory house which is a designated area which provides opportunities to explore and investigate light, colour, texture and sound in an imaginative surrounding.

Equal Opportunities

Our focus is always on the child as an individual, their lives, their needs and wants. We aim to provide an environment that values respect and induces every individual and individuality. Children have a right to grow, play and learn in an environment free from prejudice and without discrimination. Our wide range of equipment promotes and reflects cultural diversity. We aim to challenge stereotypes and provide positive role models.

Behaviour

As practitioners we will not label children. Labels such as bad and naughty as this is a short cut to explaining why behaviour is unacceptable. Labels can actually reinforce children's unacceptable behaviour, for example a child constantly called naughty sees her/himself as naughty and continues the unacceptable behaviour. Time out is only given when a child is in danger of hurting themselves or others, causing undue disruption to the group or damage to equipment or the setting and needs time to cool down.
